While in Sundance Winona talked with MTV’s Joshua Horowitz and he asked about the interview Tim Burton did when promoting his fim ‘Big Eyes’. Her words? “Yeeeeaaaah!”
Other than it looks like it’s really happening. I’m so thrilled for Michael [Keaton] with everything, it couldn’t have happened to a greater guy, and he was so brilliant, and I loved him, and I would be… I’m really, really excited.
Of all the reboots, sequels and continuations on our “Please, Hollywood, make it!” movie wish lists, the rumored sequel to “Beetlejuice” is definitely near the top. And unlike other seemingly pie-in-the-sky projects, there are multiple reasons to believe we might eventually see a second chapter to Tim Burton’s delightfully dark and hilarious classic.
Seth Grahame-Smith is in the midst of writing a script commissioned by Burton, who is onboard with the project as long as Michael Keaton returns to his iconic role.
Because of our continued interest in seeing the sequel come to fruition and to theaters everywhere, MTV News asked star Winona Ryder if she had any inside info on the film.
“You tell me — I don’t know!” Ryder said from the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her film “The Iceman.” “I’ve heard from journalists, that’s how I found out, but I’m seeing Tim next week, and I will let you know.”
If Ryder delivers on that statement, she has plenty of pertinent questions we’d love for her to have answered.
“I’m trying to think about how that would work. Obviously I’m not [the focal point]; it’s got to be Michael. So is it happening?” she wondered. “It’s being written, but is it happening? Tim hasn’t confirmed it yet [officially].”
Burton has confirmed his interest in exploring a sequel, and if Ryder is interested as well, we’re guessing she could also be involved in some way via flashback or cameo, especially since frequent Burton collaborator Johnny Depp seemed plenty game to pop in a frame or two for fun. [MTV]

Winona is in talks to star with James Franco and Jason Statham an action movie written by Silvester Stallone.
Winona Ryder is in negotiations to join Jason Statham and James Franco in Homefront, Millennium’s action movie scripted by Sylvester Stallone. Kid actor Izabela Vidovic is also boarding the production, which is expected to get underway Sept. 24 in New Orleans with Gary Fleder directing.
The project, based on a book by Chuck Logan, centers on a an ex-DEA agent (Statham) who moves to a small town in the hope of a quiet life but runs afoul of a villainous meth kingpin named Gator (Franco). Ryder will play a former biker chick partnered with Franco. Vidovic is playing Statham’s daughter.
Stallone is producing with Kevin King Templeton and Rene Besson. Avi Lerner and Trevor Short executive produce.
Bloody-Disgusting caught up with writer Seth Grahame-Smith during the “Dark Shadows” press conference and asked him for an update on “Beetlejuice 2” and whether Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis or Winona Ryder’s characters will return.
It’s all possible. In terms of the story, however, many years that are between the two films will be the amount of years that are between the two story lines. It’s not a reboot or a remake, it’s a straight sequel with Michael Keaton returning as Beetlejuice.
