Winona at Sundance

Sunday, Dec 2, 2007

Films featuring Winona Ryder, Nick Nolte, Anjelica Huston and Paul Giamatti will be among those competing for top honors at the Sundance Film Festival.

The lineup announced Tuesday for Sundance, the main U.S. showcase for independent film, also included documentaries on writer Hunter S. Thompson, musician Patti Smith and filmmakers Roman Polanski and Derek Jarman.

Taking place Jan. 17-27 in Park City, Utah, Sundance has chosen 16 films in its dramatic competition for American fictional films, including director Geoff Haley’s “The Last Word,” starring Ryder, Wes Bentley and Ray Romano in a romance about a reclusive writer who crafts suicide notes for other people.

Winona Ryder is Amanda Grayson

Friday, Nov 9, 2007

Last week TrekMovie.com revealed that Spock’s parents will be appearing in the new Star Trek movie. And now Variety is reporting that Winona Ryder has landed the part of Spock’s human mother Amanda Grayson, a role originally played by the late Jane Wyatt. The Oscar-nominated veteran of dozens of films may be the best known member of the Star Trek cast so far. At 36, Ryder is only six years older than Zachary Quinto who plays Spock. It is possible that Ryder (and perhaps the actor playing Spock’s father Sarek) will be seen in some sort of flashback to Spock’s childhood or adolescence.

Actor Christian Slater is to team up with Winona Ryder for a ?€?Heathers?€™ sequel.

Although Slater dies in the first film he and Ryder have both signed up to star in a follow up to the cult classic.

Director and writer of the first film Daniel Walters will be writing the new film and may also direct.

In the first film Slater helps Ryder seek her revenge on a group of girls who are all named Heather.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Ryder said: “I don’t know how much is official; it’s a way away.

“But it takes place in Washington and Christian Slater agreed to come back and make an Obi-Wan-type appearance. It’s very funny.”

It is as yet unsure when production will begin on the film?
