Winona Ryder will play the female lead opposite Wes Bentley and Ray Romano in Geoffrey Haley’s offbeat romantic dramadey “The Last Word.” Haley will direct his own script about a reclusive writer played by Bentley, who makes his living composing other people’s suicide notes. His life gets turned upside down after he embarks on a tumultuous romance with Ryder, the sister of a recently deceased client. Filming is set commence later this month in Los Angeles.

ThinkFilm has bought North American theatrical distribution rights to the Ten Commandments satire “The Ten,” whose cast include Winona Ryder, Jessica Alba and Adam Brody.
The indie partnered on the $4.5 million deal with City Lights Home Entertainment, which will handle DVD and digital distribution. Both companies will share all revenues. An August theatrical release is planned.
The episodic film, directed by David Wain, also features Paul Rudd, Liev Schreiber, Justin Theroux, Gretchen Mol, Oliver Platt and Famke Janssen.
The film was described as “a very smart brand of seemingly dumb comedy” by Mark Urman, the head of ThinkFilm’s U.S. theatrical operations.
“We thought it was a hilarious, funny, movie, and that if we brought it to an audience with brains and style, it would have the ability to do better than (ThinkFilm’s) ‘The Aristocrats’ or ‘Strangers with Candy”‘ Urman added.
The Ten will have it’s world premiere on January 19th, 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival at Park City, Utah.

After overseeing the Melbourne Festival production of his adaptation of an Indonesian epic poem, I La Galigo that opens tonight, Wilson flies to Los Angeles to complete a series of 21 video portraits of such people as Sean Penn, Brad Pitt and Winona Ryder. And, a documentary on his life, Absolute Wilson, will open in New York next week.
