She also gave a quick interview to site Fashionista, which you can read below:

The stunning actress seriously hasn’t aged a day since Heathers (she recently modeled some H&M x Marni out in L.A.) and looked amazing in a Loomstate 321 tee under a fitted leather moto jacket. She seemed a bit discombobulated–first warmly greeting us, then asking for a moment (“I just need to fix my lipstick”) and later apologizing for being out of it because she “took the redeye in.” We asked her to share the most earth friendly thing that she does and we think we kind of confused her.

“Let me think,” Ryder giggled. “Maybe you should pause it [gesturing to our recorder]. I’m trying to think of the greenest things that I do. I don’t under….You mean like in my own personal? So boring. For the line? What? I’m sorry…”

We felt bad for flustering the jet-legged actress and backtracked to an easier question: How does she know Gregory and MacKinlay Hahn?

“I’ve known them for a few years and I’m a huge fan of their designs, but also their deep commitment to the environment,” she slowly articulated. “And you know they’re doing what everybody should be doing and with sustainability and with keeping it organic and I’m just excited for them. They’re great guys and the thing is so awesome. Such a great example and it’s something that you can wear eight million ways and believe me I tried them all tonight. I speak from experience.”

So taking the eight-dresses-in-one in mind, how many times would Ryder wear the design before she threw it in the wash, we asked?

“Well, I would have to double check with Scott because I’ve been schooled about laundry by them,” Ryder said. “I just used to do my laundry and I never thought about it. Then through them I really learned that you don’t have to wash your jeans every [day]…and it’s actually better.”

So there you have it: Stars, lazy with laundry–just like us.

Winona: I wanna go to Australia so bad! I’ve never been!

Why?
Because I’ve almost done movies there but then for whatever reason they’ve fallen apart. Like, I was hoping on this movie we’d get to go there but because of Vince’s baby we can’t do a trip like that but I can’t wait to go there. I’ve got a lot of friends from there

So why are there so many films these days starring chubby men and hot women?
(laughs) Oh… I don’t know. I feel like I would sound a bit sexist but I do think there is some truth that women fall in love with the person inside, someone who’s gentle. I think there are all different kinds of women and some women don’t think this way but looks aren’t as important to women as they are to most men. I don’t know what the exact percentages are but I’m sure there are men who feel the same way, but Kevin James is a real charm and has a real sweetness about him that draws you in and so I can totally see Geneva [Ryder’s character] being swept off her feet by this sort of mad scientist really sweet shy guy. I get it. I get it (laughs)

We haven’t seen you in a while – other than Black Swan – why this movie?
Well, just to work with Ron Howard was huge for me. I’d always wanted to work with him and I’ve so much respect for him and he’s also – everything you hear about him in terms of being the nicest guy in Hollywood – that’s all true. And he’s a real actor’s director. If you have a question or are working something else, he won’t just shout at you. He’ll take the time and come on over and that’s very rare these days because everything is on such a tight schedule. Ultimately, it helps the movie because you can keep doing it and it’s better to fix it early on and he’s so wonderful. And Vince I’ve always been a huge fan of and I love his humour and I’ve always wanted to work him. I was just really drawn the story. I was drawn to the idea and the question and would you or wouldn’t you tell your best friend something bad?

So, would you or wouldn’t you tell if you’d seen your friend’s boyfriend with another woman?
You know what, luckily I’ve never been in that position and I think that it’s probably so complicated. I can’t imagine my best friend – I can’t imagine not telling my best friend but I think there are certain friendships that you could become the bad guy by being honest so I think it’s just a case by case thing.

Are there any situations where you think a white lie is preferable?
You know, you certainly don’t want to hurt people’s feelings but I think there’s a way to do it instead of saying, ‘You look terrible!’ You could say, ‘Why don’t you try this on?’ There are ways to do it when you don’t’ have to be brutal about it.

What do you like doing in your spare time?
For the past few years, or maybe more than that, I’ve really tried to construct and a life so that when I go off and make a movie I’ve got something to come back to that is meaningful and full of support and friendships and relationships so I can feel as normal as possible. So I can go and work on a film and sometimes you’re gone for a long time so I go and do that. I wouldn’t know what to do, I feel like I have no life, and where am I going and what time is it? And now I feel a calmness because I’ve sort of planted some roots. It’s important for me to live as normal of a life as possible if you’re going to do all this drama in your work you don’t want it at home (laughs)

What music do you like?
Tom Waits, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell. Nothing too exciting. Exciting to me but…. (laughs)

Yeah, although it’s very different from that. There have been some dark comedies here and there, but this is one of those movies – it’s very funny, anything with Vince Vaughn is very funny – but also it poses a question that everybody at some point in their lives gets asked, which is: if you knew your best friend’s significant other was cheating on them, would you tell?

It’s not called The Dilemma for nothing. And you play a key role.

I’m the one having the affair. (Vince) is the one who catches me. My husband (played by Kevin James) is his best friend and he goes through this whole thing of ‘Should I tell or shouldn’t I?’ It’s very comic but there’s also a lot of heartbreak because … well, the film has a lot of heart in it.

How did it feel to play the femme fatale?

There is something very noirish about her – until the end, when you realise how vulnerable she is.

Did director Ron Howard make a conscious decision to cast you against type?

In the beginning, they were interested in me for the role of Vince’s girlfriend (which ultimately went to Jennifer Connelly). Ron told me it was Vince who suggested it would be interesting for me to play against type. I was just very grateful to them for giving me that opportunity because it is easy to cast me as the doe-eyed innocent. It was a really fun role to play.

In terms of the film’s central dilemma, where do you sit – do you tell or do you not tell?

Oh God, I don’t know! It all depends on the situation because things can be so misread. Something can look like flirting when really you are trying to sell a piece of real estate. But I have certainly been in that situation before and I haven’t told and then I have gotten confronted and it’s made it worse. I don’t think I could withhold that from my best friend. Especially if she was madly in love and thinking everything was perfect.

On the other hand … Ignorance is bliss, right?

You also appear in the ballet thriller Black Swan with Natalie Portman.

I play a diva who is being replaced. It’s like four or five scenes, but it’s a great role. She’s a prima ballerina, and in the ballet world your career is over when you are very, very young. She’s being not only replaced but she’s being fired and dumped by her boyfriend who is head of the ballet. She just spirals into this horrible, horrible Darren Aronofsky world of torture.

Although it’s set in a very different world to Aronofsky’s last film, The Wrestler, ballet is similarly visceral and intense.

It’s like every scene I am in, I am in some phase of complete anguish. It’s a very interesting look at the quest for perfection, what these women are prepared to sacrifice even knowing it’s going to be over for them at a very young age. All of those cliches you hear about are true. They chain smoke, they don’t eat, they are so fragile, yet they can endure these insane ballets.

While your role is only small, did you like how attention-grabbing it is?

Black Swan was one of the best roles I have had in ages. I’m not afraid to play some of that kind of stuff. I thought it was great that Darren saw this parallel in my own life. I have just turned 39, so I am getting to that age where it’s going to be a transition for me. The scripts are going to be different. And Natalie, well, there’s not really a parallel because she is much younger than me, but she’s been working for so long she’s definitely earned her place amongst the great actresses.

Did you have any reservations going in?

I thought it was really cool that Darren saw me as someone who had a great run in her teens and 20s and then had a harder time. It was a really interesting parallel that I could understand. Of course, I still hope for great roles and scripts, but the industry has changed so much, it’s like it really is based on different things than it used to be based on. But there’s always hope.

The LA Times has placed you on comeback alert. How does that feel?

Obviously, these are higher-profile movies and there are better movies than some of the ones, frankly, that I have done. But I don’t really pay attention to that sort of stuff.

Your next film is Tim Burton’s stop-motion Frankenweenie. What was it like to work with your Edward Scissorhands director again?

I love him so much. He’s a good friend and a huge … I feel like he put me on the map in a way. It’s really great to be reunited with him.

There have been reports of a Heathers sequel, as well as a musical and a TV series.

I know they are doing a musical and I know they are doing a TV series, but I don’t know much about them. The Heathers sequel is not true. I was lobbying for it for a long time, but I got shot down.

You are an avid collector and, according to one report, you recently bought a dress from Gone With the Wind. True?

I only have a blouse from Gone With the Wind, but I do collect paraphernalia from old movies. Just anything old I like … first editions and prints.

You just sold your house in Los Angeles. Was that a wrench?

No. It was like a gigantic place and everyone was coming past on the tour thing, so it got to be a drag. I had been there for 16 years. I spend a lot of time in San Francisco and New York, and I have another place in LA that is more appropriate for me.
